SKYJACK PARTNERS WITH MODERN ACCESS & EQUIPMENT IN SINGAPORE
Skyjack recently named Modern Access & Equipment Pte. Ltd. as a new dealer in Singapore. The dealership agreement took effect on January 1, 2016. In addition, Modern also added 60 Skyjack machines to bolster its rental fleet, which includes the first SJ86 T telescopic boom to arrive in Asia, plus additional booms for sale and rental.
“Our customers demand products that are easy to use, and we look for machines that are easy to service,” said Klein Phua, assistant general manager at Modern. “The Skyjack machines are a perfect fit for our fleet — their reliable design means they are ideal rental units, and when there is a breakdown we can be sure the machines will be back in operation at minimum cost.”
Prior to the latest delivery, Modern’s fleet already included over 400 Skyjack machines. Phua said the adding the latest batch of machines will help his company cope with increasing demand from customers.
“We were very impressed with the performance of the initial 260 machines we ordered at the end of 2013. Adding more units to the existing fleet will ensure we have enough machines to meet increasing demand for both rental and sales activities,” he said.
As one of the world’s leading aerial work platform manufacturers, Skyjack’s range of DC scissor lifts have an excellent reputation with dealers looking to either bolster their rental fleets or invest in stock for sales activities. Included in Modern’s recent order were around 50 DC scissor lifts, with model numbers ranging from SJIII 3219 to SJIII 4632. The machines have a working height ranging from 7.79 m to 11.75 m, and come with Skyjack’s SKYCODED™ feature as standard. This simplistic, color-coded control system makes the units easier to troubleshoot and repair.
“As a dealer, we really appreciate Skyjack’s commonality approach to design,” Phua said. “It makes it so simple to repair a machine, because parts are common throughout the Skyjack range. Similarly, the SKYCODED™ feature translates into less maintenance and lower costs, which is a valuable asset to a fleet like ours.”
Also among Modern’s newly delivered Skyjack machines was the first SJ86 T telescopic boom to arrive in Asia. Drivable at its full working height of 28.21 m and fitted with an axle-based 4WD system, the SJ86 T has 45% gradeability for excellent maneuverability. This versatile telescopic boom also offers fantastic return on investment — a serious plus point for rental fleet owners such as Phua.
“Modern is one of the biggest names in equipment rental in Singapore, so when we supplied 260 units to the company back in 2013, it made everyone else sit up and take notice,” said Simon Cracknell, Skyjack’s director of business development in Asia. “Partnering with them as a dealer is really a win-win situation for both companies.”
The Modern Group is based in Hong Kong, but also has branches in Macau, as well as in Singapore, making them one of the biggest rental companies in the Far-East Region. The office in Singapore offers aerial work platforms, scaffolding and fall arrest equipment for sale and rental, making the company a comprehensive specialist in all kinds of access equipment offerings.
“Modern has made a sizeable investment in Skyjack machines as part of its growing rental fleet, but that’s not the kind of outlay that’s undertaken lightly,” Cracknell said. “Modern made that investment because it knows Skyjack is a reliable brand that will offer a good return. Modern’s excellent reputation is a good reflection of how we want to grow our presence in the region.”
