DC MOTOR CONTROLLER
POSTED November 10, 2014
Skyjack recently introduced a motor controller device for its line of DC scissor platforms at APEX 2014, which was held from June 24 to 26 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
The proven technology is already featured as part of Skyjack’s line of vertical mast lifts and has been for many years. Applying it to the company’s range of DC scissors gives the equipment closer control, better efficiency, longer working time between recharges and quieter operation.
“We chose APEX to introduce the DC motor controllers because the show continues to cement its position as the leading global tradeshow for our industry. Many of our customers are at the show, particularly from key markets in Europe where we are introducing the DC motor controllers first,” said Malcolm Early, vice president of marketing for Skyjack.
This latest introduction follows Skyjack’s philosophy of producing Simply Reliable machines. The device manages the DC electric motor that drives the scissor platforms, delivering only the power required to complete any given operation. This improves performance without overcomplicating the machine’s design and also maintains the features and benefits customers love on their Skyjack DC scissor platforms.
Benefits of the motor controller
• Longer battery life – Because the controller delivers only the power that is required by each operation, overall working life between charges is increased.
• Lower energy consumption – With the new design, recharging time is also shorter, reducing energy consumption, lowering cost and improving environmental credentials.
• Better maneuverability – The new power delivery to the mechanisms allows enhanced steering settings, which leads to better maneuverability. This is particularly useful in confined spaces. In addition to better steering, travel speeds are optimized.
• Quieter operation – Because the motor output is no longer set to its maximum, noise levels are reduced.
Limited launch
To begin with, the technology will be available on all DC scissor platforms sold in Europe, Asia and Australia.
• SJIII 3215
• SJIII 3219
• SJIII 3220
• SJIII 3226
• SJIII 4626
• SJIII 4632
Additional market launches will be considered in the future. In the meantime, trials are planned for customers in other markets and Skyjack welcomes requests from customers to participate in these trials. Skyjack plans on introducing this new technology on machines in North America after the new design standards for aerial work platforms are in effect in the United States.
