6826/32 RT OUTRIGGER FRAME BOLTS

04/14/2014
The Skyjack Compact Rough Terrain scissor models 6826/6832 R/T may be equipped with outriggers to level the frame when used on uneven terrain. The outrigger assemblies attach to the machine frame via weldments that bolt to the frame rails at the front and the rear. The outrigger cylinder assemblies slide into the weldment and are bolted in place from underneath. It is important to inspect the outrigger weldments and cylinder assemblies regularly for missing parts, damage, or loose components or fasteners. Always make sure that all the bolts are in place and the outrigger weldment bolts "A" are torqued to the correct specification. The correct torque specification for the weldment attachment bolts is 180 ft. lbs. or 244 N-m.

Figure 1 shows the outrigger weldment and cylinder assemblies. The weldment attachment bolts "A" should be inspected regularly for any problems and should be properly torqued to the correct specification.

The outrigger cylinder assemblies should also be checked at the same time for any problems and to ensure that their bolts are tight.

It is important to make sure that all the fasteners on every machine are tightened properly. If not maintained regularly, loose fasteners on the outrigger attachment connections may lead to damage to the outrigger cylinder assemblies, outrigger weldment, and/or the machine base frame, resulting in the need for replacement.

TECH TIDBIT
The Skyjack SJ12 and SJ16 model Vertical Mast lifts utilize Pothole Protection bars (PHP) that drop into place when the platform is lifted. For the SJ12 models with serial number 14001105 and below, the PHP bars operate similarly to the SJIII model electric scissor lifts. They deploy when the platform is raised and retract when the platform is lowered. For the SJ12 models serial number 14001106 and above and all the SJ16 models, the PHP bars deploy when the platform is raised. But when the platform is lowered, the PHP bars stay deployed until the drive function is used.
