Skyjack Supports the University of Guelph Arboretum with Fall Tree Seed Harvest and Arb Expo

October 2, 2024; Linamar Corporation’s (TSX:LNR) Skyjack division is proud to continue their long time support of The Arboretum at the University of Guelph as they embark on their annual fall tree seed harvest and Arb Expo.
Established in 1970, The Arboretum connects people with nature and enhances teaching, research and public outreach for both The University of Guelph and broader community. Encompassing 400 acres adjacent to campus, The Arboretum features plant collections, meadows, walking trails, gardens, woodlands and wetlands and is home to more than 2000 different taxa of woody plants.
In addition to teaching and research, The Arboretum has a strong focus on the conservation of those woody plants native to Ontario. As part of their conservation efforts, The Arboretum takes a very active role in seed collection. Using the SJ86 T on loan from Skyjack, this seed collection not only helps the continued development of The Arboretum grounds and collections, but also aids in conservation efforts as several conservation activities rely on the collection and archiving of threatened woody plants.
"This Skyjack gift boosts our mission of conserving biodiversity and connecting people with nature,” says Arboretum Manager, Alison Morrison. “Our team can safely and efficiently collect seeds from tree canopies that were once out of reach or too delicate to access. This efficiency has greatly enhanced our efforts to preserve the genetic diversity of Ontario’s rare and endangered woody plants. The improved seed collection supports our research, conservation and educational programs, helping us foster a deeper appreciation and understanding of nature within our community. The Skyjack lift has truly made our conservation and outreach work more effective and impactful, and we are incredibly grateful for this support."
Skyjack also supported the annual Arb Expo: Tree Day + Plant Sale as a Silver Maple Sponsor. Taking place on September 7th, the family fun-festival celebrated trees and plants at The Arboretum with hikes, music, educational events and food. As part of the sponsorship, Skyjack’s Design & Multimedia Director Christina Evans designed the t-shirts worn by Arb Expo volunteers. The shirts were also sold at the event with proceeds going to The Arboretum.
“We at Skyjack are always happy to support The Arboretum at the University of Guelph,” said Malcolm Early, VP of Marketing, Skyjack. “We are proud to see our SJ86 T assist in the admirable conservation and research work The Arboretum team completes each year.”
